Sustainability

Our Commitment

One step forward every day

Committing to sustainability isn’t about already being there. It means recognising the need to grow, to make an effort, to turn that effort into progress. A little bit more every day.

We start with a raw material – cellulose – that is sustainable by its very nature and we select it from managed stocks. We add water which we then return clean, downstream of our paper mills. We use energy, as frugally as possible and from the cleanest possible sources.
We make some of our paper and other materials adhesive, selecting the ones that are the easiest to recycle, and work with customers and suppliers to make the entire supply chain more sustainable, and eliminate our waste and emissions.

We have done this for some time now, and we do it with our people. We nurture their talent and provide them with a safe workplace that is free from discrimination. We require the same of our suppliers, to ensure respect for human rights and biodiversity even outside the working environment.

This is the starting point for our commitment to making a positive impact. We’re not quite there yet. But we’re one step closer than we were yesterday.

2030 Target

Taking a protective approach to the environment, developing new products that integrate with our existing portfolio, being responsible for our people and our governance model – we have decided to embark on a process of change over a 10-year period. We have set ourselves challenging goals and we’re determined to achieve them.

To do this, we have prepared a strategy consisting of 12 targets and 4 focus areas, in line with the 2030 objectives common to all UN member states – the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2015 as a universal call to action.

Another step forward, every day

Environment

We have defined a clear direction for the next 9 years, with the aim of reducing our CO2 emissions, improving the management and recovery of waste and water, and selecting suppliers carefully, to demonstrate our compliance with best sustainability practices.

People

Nurturing talent and development pathways – this is our philosophy for providing a safe work environment accessible to everyone, where people can realise their full potential and have the chance to make a difference in line with the Group’s values.

Products & Innovation

Our portfolio is continually evolving and expanding, bringing increasing improvements for customers and the environment.

The world around us

Not only do we wish to do better for our own people and the environment, we also want to do better for the community in which our business operates, by setting up local initiatives that create value for the whole planet.
